COUNSELLING

Counselling

I hurt...

Sometimes it can be one big crisis, such as a bereavement or redundancy, to cause us to become distressed, or it may be a succession of smaller troubles.

You may feel your self- esteem is low, struggle with confidence or your relationship.

We can even find ourselves unhappy or suffering from sadness or anxiety without knowing the cause.

If you feel your life is out of balance, it can be very helpful to talk it over with a caring person who is not directly involved and will not try to ‘fix’ it for you.

Your confidentiality is important to me and you can explore your problems in a safe place without fear of judgement.

Hopefully you can then begin to restore some ‘symmetry’ to your life and begin to feel more positive.

My beliefs and approach

I believe that human beings are made up of physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual (not necessarily religious) elements and when these are in conflict this can cause distress.

For example you may feel you ‘ought’ to work harder and feel guilty, although you are physically exhausted.

Perhaps you can’t seem to find the happiness in life that you believe you deserve but aren’t sure how to improve your relationships.  Or maybe you’d like a career change but feel stuck from a lack of confidence or can’t think what to do next.

A bereavement, redundancy or other serious loss (or series of losses) can leave all of us feeling very sad and anxious.

I believe that counselling, whilst not magic, can give you the safe space to be ‘heard’ and to observe the more subtle signals that your own body, brain and intuition will signal.  It’s not advice- it’s about finding the way forward that suits you as an emotional, physical and thinking human being.

How counselling can help

The aim of counselling is to explore together the issues that are painful or causing difficulty and hopefully gain some objective awareness of your own inner reactions. This can bring your life into better balance- what I call ‘life symmetry’.

We will do this in a safe, confidential atmosphere of empathic understanding, without judgement; hopefully this will enable you to relax and uncover the problems behind your distress.

It can be very helpful with more awareness and insight, you are in a better position to cope and decide on different strategies for dealing with life issues that may come up in the future.
